MONDAY NIGHT LIVE, LABOR DAY SHOW!!!!

Dear friends,
Please join us for a very special Monday Night Live on Labor Day, Sept. 2, when we will be performing a fundraising extravaganza (really, just a regular show with lots of enthusiasm) to raise money and awareness about our dear friend Trex Proffitt’s PA Senate run this fall. And our parents will be in the IRL audience at Little Blue Studio to cheer!
If you want to donate now, here’s a button I just made:
Fruitlands was spectacular. What a joy to play with Seth Glier and Susan Werner, on an absolutely gorgeous summer night. We were overwhelmed by the gifts each of those talented musicians brought to the evening. Maybe my favorite moment was when they joined us for “Normandies.” See below for short excerpt.
Caffe Lena was also just amazing. We are so lucky to live these lives, visit these remarkable venues, see the best fans ever, and be a part of this long and cherished tradition. Please come see us on Monday Night Live this Monday, and then make a trek to Cambridge to Passim, or Jammin Java in Vienna VA, or 118 North in Wayne PA. And have a great Labor Day Weekend!
Love, Nerissa and Katryna

(Please donate to this link, scroll down and choose “Donate to a team” and then choose “The Nields Team: Easy People.”) We do have a date on the books for 2025 and we can’t wait to perform there!
Things We Love:
In a rare show of solidarity, we are not trying to outdo the other in terms of our Likes. In fact, we’ve so heavily influenced each other that this month WE LIKE THE EXACT SAME THINGS!
Maria Bamford
On our summer vacation, Nerissa introduced Katryna to Maria Bamford who has made her laugh more than should be legal. Katryna even laughs at her stand up when she walks by Dave watching it on his computer. Nerissa has now become addicted to watching Lady Dynamite, Maria’s Netflix show.
Priorities
Meanwhile, Katryna introduced Nerissa (and our whole family!) to Priorities, the Party Game of Absurd Ideas. It’s the best. You can play with the cards they provide, or, on a car trip, you can make up your own five random things and tell the other person in the car what they are, have them silently prioritize them, and then YOU guess what order they’d put them in. For example, what do you think our priorities are? Rank these, below, from what you think Nerissa and Katryna love to loathe, 1 being LOVE and 5 being LOATHE:
-Snakes
-70s Pop Star Shaun Cassidy
-Democracy
- “Alone” time
-Clogs
Write back and let us know what your guesses are, and then make us guess YOURS. We’ll tell you our priorities if you tell us yours! (Hint: Katryna and Nerissa may differ on snakes and Shaun Cassidy).
Catherine Newman and her novel Sandwich
At first, I liked this book because I love anything Catherine writes. I feel happy just reading her LOL funny yet simultaneously big-hearted pieces. But as the book went on, I came to more than like it. I love it and admire the craft of the narrative. She is the best. Read this book. You will thank us.
Kamala + Tim = Hope + Joy
We are grateful to President Biden for his humility, Vice President Harris for her excellent choice of VP, and Governor Walz for being so down to earth. I feel like I can breathe. Let’s Do This!
Song of the Week: Joe Hill for Labor Day!
The real Joe Hill was a songwriter, itinerant laborer, and union organizer. He became famous around the world after he was framed and convicted for a murder he did not commit. He was best known as an Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) agitator. "Don't waste time mourning, organize!" he famously said. The Nields song, written as a response to the death of Pete Seeger, is based on “Joe Hill,” made famous by Joan Baez, among others.
Here’s Pete Seeger’s version:
